A complete visual world for a children’s book about Hungarian traditions
For Táncoló rímek, nemzeti értékek, the task was not to create a single illustration, but to build the full visual world of a children’s book. The artwork had to connect to Hungarian traditions, folk motifs and a playful, verse-based storytelling style, while remaining warm, approachable and easy for young readers to enter.
Project overview
A children’s book rooted in traditional motifs
Kocsi Erika contacted us with the request to bring the world of her forthcoming children’s book to life. Because of the book’s theme, the illustrations had to do more than simply accompany the text. They needed to support the atmosphere of the stories and help young readers connect with the traditional values and folk-inspired visual language of the book.
60 illustrations, cover design and print preparation
We created a total of 60 illustrations for the book. These included smaller drawings to accompany the stories, as well as full-page A4 illustrations. The cover design and the complete print preparation of the publication were also part of the project.
Creative freedom with a consistent visual direction
Erika gave us considerable creative freedom in shaping the illustrations, which allowed the scenes to develop naturally in line with the tone of the book. Only minor adjustments were needed during the process, helping the final visual world remain coherent, balanced and connected from page to page.
A unified book world from cover to inner pages
In a project like this, the illustrations cannot work only as separate images. They have to come together as a book. The cover, inner illustrations, motifs, colours and print-ready layout all shape the reader’s experience when the finished volume is held in hand.
