Commissioned by Szent Gellért Publishing House, we created custom cover artwork for an upcoming book. The project was closely based on the author’s specific ideas, so the task was not to develop a completely independent illustration direction, but to turn an existing authorial vision into a clear, balanced and cover-ready visual solution.

Turning the author’s idea into cover-ready artwork
One of the most important aspects of the project was that the artwork had to follow the author’s concept closely. In this kind of commission, the designer’s role is not to replace the author’s idea with a completely new direction, but to translate it into a visually organised form that can work effectively as part of a book cover.
Watercolour atmosphere with digital execution
The artwork was created digitally, with a watercolour-style visual effect. The professional challenge was to keep the digital execution from becoming too rigid or sterile, while preserving the softer, more painterly quality associated with watercolour surfaces.
Refined through several feedback rounds
The cover artwork was developed through three to four rounds of feedback. This was especially important because the work needed to respond precisely to the author’s specific ideas. The feedback process helped bring the image closer to the requested direction in terms of mood, message and visual detail.
A clear image that reflects the book’s atmosphere
The finished artwork was designed to be clean, understandable and aligned with the atmosphere of the book. For cover-related artwork, it is not enough for the image to look good on its own. It also needs to work as a first impression, an attention-grabbing surface and a visual entry point into the book’s message.
